The Bulgari Octo Finissimo model line is so important to the brand and horology in general that it merits a short intro:

2014: Bulgari first released a thinned down version of the brand’s original Octo line (the design penned by no less than Gerald Genta himself) dubbed the Finissimo (“very fine” in Italian) with a purpose-built manual winding movement.

2016: Bulgari released a minute repeater model Octo Finissimo

2017: It was the turn of the Octo Finissimo Automatic, a 5mm thick Titanium watch which enthralled collectors and industry pundits alike with it’s feather weight and superb 2.23mm high movement with platinum micro-rotor on display on the flipside. This model set the record for the thinnest self-winding watch produced at the time and was category winner at the GPHG awards.

2018: the Stainless Steel edition (this listing) and rose gold were released with identical dimensions to the above, both with matte shotblasted finish. The steel is also rhodium-plated, giving it a stunning bright look. It became, and remains, one of my favourite modern watches.

The extra-flat watch duels followed, with Bulgari taking the battle to Piaget with it’s Octo Finissimo Ultra at 1.8mm thick before Richard Mille shaved off a further 0.05mm with it’s silly (IMO) RM UP-01, hopefully putting the anorexic watch arguments to bed for good.

However, the Octo Finissimo’s place in these efforts in the extra-flat game cannot be overstated and it’s presence on one’s wrist is very comfortable and extremely eye-catching !
